Barkston Heath 17th March
Clay Cross RT rode the 1st event of the Barkston Heath E.Mids series today on a Windy cold 1km circuit near Grantham, the race was jumpy
from the start with 8 riders soon getting away, which included Clay Cross Team rider Lee Tuncliffe, Lee drove the break to quickly gain a handy gap on the chasing bunch which included other Team riders Mike Curtis and Tim Allen, Tim and Mike rode near the front keeping an eye on things with Tim breaking up the rythm of the chasing pack...with a few laps to go Tim allen and Julian Grommet broke clear of the bunch
while Lee was on his way to a podium finish of 3rd place...Tim outsprinted EX International Grommet with ease to claim 9th place while Mike Curtis took the Bunch sprint for 11th place.
So all in all a very good day for the Team which places them Well for the series overall...so Well done lads and good luck for Evesham tomorrow.

So after yesterdays 3rd place at Barkston heath, Sunday was even better with Rik Binks getting a great 3rd place on a tough circuit near Derby with a near mile long climb to the finish beating Mark Lovatt in the sprint.

Evesham Wheelers Road Race 18th March
The Elite Team rode the Evesham Wheelers Road Race with a Premier quality field..a break went early which included Clay Cross Team rider
Tim Allen...the break worked hard and managed to stay away ..unfortunately for Tim he was suffering from the ice cold conditions and dropped back to the bunch while Carl Dyson was Putting in a late attack to try and catch the break, Carls effort earned him a great 11th place gaining more points for the Team.

Tunnicliffe wins on Merseyside
Rekindling his passion for road racing this season after a year largely devoted to time trials, Lee Tunnicliffe (Clay Cross RT) recorded his first win in new colours in Merseyside Wheelers 81-km promotion at Skelmersdale.
After two hours of racing on the Pimbo circuit, the 26-year-old was part of an eight-strong group which was caught on the line by the chasing bunch - Giles Piddock (Chevin Cycles) and Richard Moore (Squadra RT) holding on for second and third places with Martin Lonie (Dooleys Cycles) getting up to fourth as best of the chasers.
It was brilliant, said Tunnicliffe, from Leeds. It was quite hard to get away in the beginning, there was a lot of activity but nothing was really working.
The break just drifted away in the end and was working really well until the final lap when everyone began looking at each other.
I kind of knew I couldnt do anything until the finishing straight, it was too windy on the circuit, and I think people were getting nervous because they could see the bunch coming up.
I just chose the right wheel and came through to win the sprint.

Ive predominantly been doing time trials in the last few years, but Ive joined a team now with the emphasis on road racing. Im going to do a selection of Premier Calendar races, I realise from past experience how hard they are so will just dip my toe in the water and see what happens.

The Active Cycles RR for 2/3 riders was based on an undulating circuit around North Dalton near Hull , all big ring, but included 3 sapping drags plus a 5 mile stretch of single track full of grit, felt like our version of Paris Roubaix.
Tim Allen rode well to get in a 5 up main break of day, one of other the other riders commented how strong he had been and the driving force, unfortunately though for him all this hard work unravelled when caught by a chasing grp of 10 in last half lap. I twigged that 2 good looking riders from promoting club were putting in some big efforts to bring break back and they split the bunch on one of the drags so stuck close by and made chase move....from there the break was doomed as only ever had about a minute and could be seen in distance.
With 2 of us from team in front now I asked Tim how he felt, but he didnt really respond positively, so at that point I thought need to take over here as was still full of riding and lead out 14 up sprint with only Dave Shackleton coming past, finished 3rd...in fairness leader Julian Grommet was well away on own and had been all the race.
Personally was delighted as proved can hack it with 2nd cats this season after mixing it with 3rds for a few weeks and the pts haul leaves me just 5 short of gaining a 2nd cat licence after only a month of racing.

Westerley Spring Criteriums E123, 14th April
Surrey racer Jake Martin secured victory in the Westerley CC Spring Criteriums staged at the Hillingdon circuit in London on Saturday.
The 19-year-old from Mitcham took the win ahead of former Polish professional rider Tom Wrzecionowski, the 32-year-old Cosaveli rider who now lives in Middlesex, while Blake Cowley (Clay Cross RT) made his trip from Newark in Nottinghamshire worthwhile with third spot.
As well as taking second place in the elite race, Wrzecionowski rode the supporting 3/4 category race and finished third in that one, with Guerbsey pair Mike Serafin and Matt Osborne taking first and second respectively.

Ras De Cymru, 2nd, 3rd, 4th - 27th June - 1st July
Last Wednesday Carl Dyson, Gareth Whittall, Tim Allen and Blake Cowley went to compete in the 5 day Ras De Cymru, this is a incredibly tough hilly Stage race in Wales.
Tim started the ball rolling with a 2nd place on the 3rd stage followed by a great Team effort in the Team Time Trial finishing 2nd, which moved Tim upto 3rd overall with Carl 5th.
The next stage Carl finished 8th with Tim taking the king of the Mountains jersey which he eventually Won Overall. Tim managed another 3rd place on a stage and finishing 3rd Overall.
So a great result and Team effort by the lads...

Star Wheelers Evening Road Race, 2nd, 3rd, 4th - 17th July
Tuesday night saw the inaugural running of the Huddersfield Starwheelers Evening Road Race on the testing Crow Edge circuit on the moors above Huddersfield.
Despite torrential rain before the event, a full field of 60 riders lined up on drying tarmac for six laps of the testing 5.5 mile circuit.
Five riders including two juniors formed a strong breakaway group after lap two, all working well together, however, the very strong winds on the evening added to the challenging terrain. This saw the main bunch catch the break on the start of the sixth and last lap.
Lee Tunnicliffe, riding for Clay Cross Road Team, took his opportunity as the reformed main bunch recovered and broke away to cross the line and take the chequered flag 30 seconds clear of the chasing bunch who battled out the remaining places in a bunch sprint.
